PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – A Special Reserve Police (SRP) officer in Trinidad and Tobago has been charged with forgery and misbehaviour in public office after she submitted copies of invalid certificates purportedly obtained from the Barbados-based Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).
A police statement said that WPC Lauren Thomas has also been charged with uttering a forged document and will appear before the Port of Spain North Criminal Court on Wednesday.
The statement said that on March 15 this year, officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) received a report that a female officer had allegedly submitted a bundle of documents to initiate the absorption process to become a Regular Police Officer at the Police Academy.
“Subsequent checks were made to confirm the validity of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) certificates; however, it was observed that the certificates submitted were invalid,” the statement said, adding that an investigation was immediately launched, resulting in the female officer being arrested on June 1.
She was charged with the offences following advice received from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
