A meeting between students from higher education and agricultural vocational training establishments and Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, was held on April 25, 2026 in Meknes on the sidelines of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM). This exchange, which took place in the presence of Mohamed Fikrate, chairman of the board of directors of the Crédit Agricole du Maroc Group, is under the theme “Agricultural policy and education: Issues and perspectives” and brought together more than 250 students, future engineers, veterinary doctors and technicians, alongside managers of establishments, teaching teams, central and regional directors, as well as representatives of inter-professions and institutional partners.
A real space for direct exchange with young people, this meeting illustrates the ministry’s desire to place human capital at the heart of the transformation of the agricultural sector and to strengthen the match between training and real needs on the ground. On this occasion, the minister shared with the students the main advances made by the agricultural sector in recent years, highlighting a dynamic of profound transformation.
He notably cited the development of localized irrigation with nearly a million hectares equipped with drip irrigation, the improvement of plant and animal production performance thanks to technological innovation and genetic progress, the modernization of production systems, the strengthening of the health security system, as well as the significant progression of agricultural exports and the continued efforts to support farmers in the face of climatic hazards.
The minister also recalled that this dynamic is part of the “Green Generation 2020-2030” strategy, which places human capital and youth at the heart of agricultural development. Furthermore, he presented an ambitious future vision for the agricultural sector, based on more resilient, innovative and sustainable agriculture. This vision is based in particular on securing water resources, through the development of seawater desalination, the interconnection of hydraulic basins and integrated management of the water mix, the modernization of production systems, the acceleration of mechanization and digitalization, as well as the development of efficient agro-industrial value chains. In this sense, future graduates of agricultural training establishments are called upon to play a major role. The minister stressed that the engineers, veterinarians, technicians and entrepreneurs of tomorrow will be the main actors in this transformation, contributing to the emergence of intelligent agriculture, based on science, technology and innovation. Among the highlights of this meeting, we will note the interventions of around ten students representing the diversity of sectors.
Through their testimonies, they shared their journeys, their ambitions and their vision of the professions of tomorrow, illustrating their desire to actively contribute to the transformations of the sector. This meeting also made it possible to highlight the opportunities offered in terms of agricultural and rural entrepreneurship, by encouraging the emergence of a new generation of young leaders of innovative projects, particularly in the fields of agritech, consulting and modern farming. The exchanges, marked by strong interaction, made it possible to open a constructive dialogue around the adaptation of training to territorial specificities and the needs of professionals, while strengthening synergies between the different players in the sector.
