When the new airport in Ilulissat opens at the end of October, around ten security staff will be ready. They have just finished their training stay in Billund. In addition, several security employees from Billund will be in Ilulissat and help until the end of November, according to Greenland Airports.
The Atlantic flights to and from Ilulissat starts shortly. The airport and its new buildings are scheduled to open to the public on October 29.
Greenland Airports wrote on its Facebook page on Sunday that some of the many preparations for the day have now been completed. Here it appears that security staff at the future airport have been undergoing training at Billund Airport in Denmark, so that they are ready to serve passengers in Ilulissat, the company writes.
– Two teams of four to five employees each spent a week in Billund, where they followed the airport’s own security staff through the guards and received training in a busy airport with hundreds of passengers, writes Greenland Airports.
It is positive that the employees have already gained experience before the airport opens, says the head of security at Ilulissat Airport.
– You can read the procedures and practice a lot. But the routine only comes when you stand in it. Having been close to work at a busy airport means the team has tried most things before when we open on 29 October. It gives a sense of calm in the stomach that you can’t train for in a classroom, says Lars Daner Lindholm.
Employees from Billund will help with the start-up
The cooperation between the security staff in Ilulissat and Billund Airport does not stop there. Instead of people from Ilulissat traveling to Billund, people from Billund now go to Ilulissat.
From the beginning of October to the end of November, there will be continuous employees from Billund working in Ilulissat, writes Greenland Airports. They must help with the start-up.
– The colleagues in Billund have welcomed us in a way that we can hardly thank enough for. They have shared their experience and they continue to help even after we have opened. It is this kind of cooperation that makes a new airport and talented colleagues even better from day one, says Lars Daner Lindholm.
