Completed TFE Warehouse Worker training
NEW-NICKERIE — The Labor Mobilization and Development Foundation (SAO) has started vocational training courses in electrical home installation, gawasa, refrigeration technology and assistant construction worker in the Nickerie district, each lasting four months. The participants, including twelve employees of the Anne van Dijk Rice Research Center Nickerie (Adron) who are trained in refrigeration technology and construction work, pay for their training themselves.
Deputy Minister Raj Jadnanasing of Health, Welfare and Labor (VWA) emphasized that the SAO, the Productive Work Units Foundation and Suriname Hospitality and Tourism Training Center will have to further increase their training capacity to better prepare vulnerable groups within the labor force for the expected employment. This will be done through professional training and additional guidance in the field of small entrepreneurship.
“Vocational training not only contributes to better job opportunities, but also to the self-reliance of citizens and well-being in the districts”
Deputy Minister Raj Jadnanansing
He indicated that his aim is to prepare approximately three thousand people for the labor market by the end of 2027. In this way, the Welfare and Labor Directorate wants to be able to better respond to the expected demand for workers that will arise from the economic spin-off of the oil and gas sector.
The deputy minister also sees an important role for the business community. According to him, companies should provide further training to their employees in a timely manner to increase productivity and prepare them for the expected developments in 2028. He therefore expressed the hope that Adron’s example will be followed by other companies and institutions.
According to Jadnanansing, vocational training not only contributes to better job opportunities, but also to the self-reliance of citizens and well-being in the districts. By offering people the opportunity to learn a profession or start their own business, they can better provide for their livelihood. This can also contribute to reducing social and psychosocial problems associated with unemployment.

Certificate presentation TFE training Warehouse employee
Procurement Advisory Services provided the Warehouse & Logistics Employee training in Nickerie on behalf of the Welfare and Labor Directorate. It was a vocational training that prepared participants for work in a warehouse and the logistics sector.
The implementation took place according to the Training for Employment (TFE) concept, which prepares participants for concrete work – carrying out goods flows and warehouse work in an organized, safe and efficient manner – and the needs of the labor market.
They attended classes for two weeks between Monday and Friday from nine in the morning to half past twelve in the afternoon. The program included orientation visits to a rice company and a hospital, during which participants had the opportunity to observe how warehouses are set up and how goods and products are stored and administered. They learn, among other things, how to receive, store, manage and prepare goods and products for shipment.
By successfully completing the training, 24 participants have taken an important step towards sustainable participation in the labor market. The training took place within the framework of the Leri Fu Feni Wroko sub-project, which is part of the larger Labor Market Alignment with New Industries project funded by the IDB.
Other districts
This training started on October 28 in Wanica district and ends on December 16. In 202 it is Para and Commewijne’s turn. A total of 125 participants in different districts are following the program.
The choice for this training is in line with the increasing need for personnel in the logistics sector, including positions in distribution, supply chain and supporting business services. The training thus contributes to the broader strategy to guide job seekers into the labor market more quickly and effectively.
During the presentation of the certificates, Jadnanansing indicated that training job seekers and vulnerable groups in a vocational profession will be a continuous process in the coming period. According to him, this is necessary to be able to respond to the growing demand for locally employable workers (local content) in response to expected developments in the oil and gas sector.
In the oil and gas sector alone, he expects that six thousand to seven thousand jobs will be created that will need to be filled in the next two years. In addition, new job opportunities will emerge in other sectors as a result of the positive economic effects that the development of the oil and gas sector is expected to bring.
According to Jadnanansing, the Welfare and Labor Directorate is well on its way to achieving the set target. He referred to the Leri Fu Feni Wroko and Wroko Fu Meki Moni projects, which are aimed at strengthening the opportunities of job seekers on the labor market.
