The team of the elected president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, He denounced this Monday that he received intelligence information about an alleged plan by illegal armed organizations to attack his life during the development of his agenda of regional meetings.
“In the last few hours, the security team of President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella received intelligence information that warns of a possible criminal plan to attack his life,” said a statement from his team, which attributed the alleged threat to a conspiracy by the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla and the FARC dissidents.
The information known to the president-elect’s team warns of an alleged offer of up to 3,000 million pesos, about 900,000 dollars, to carry out the attack.
The document adds that the intelligence information also warns of possible attempts to infiltrate press conferences and public activities, especially events with the presence of children and older adults, with the purpose of carrying out a violent action.
Despite the complaint, De la Espriella’s team assured that the elected president will not suspend its work agenda or the territorial transition process because he considers that “Colombia cannot give in to the threats of those who seek to impose fear through violence.”
However, he asked the authorities to investigate the origin of the threat, identify those responsible and neutralize any action that puts the life of the elected president or the civilian population at risk.
The complaint occurs less than three weeks before De la Espriella’s inauguration, scheduled for August 7, in the midst of a climate of strong political tension after the presidential elections, whose result the outgoing president, Gustavo Petro, still does not recognize.
