SAN MARINO – New study by the University of San Marino on the perception of association with the EU. Interviewed by the University of the Republic of San Marino as part of a new survey on the perceptions and feelings of the population towards the European Union, the majority of San Marino people involved indicated that they would express their opinion in favor of a hypothetical referendum on the association agreement.
As part of the in-depth study, which will be presented to the public on Tuesday 5 May at 8.30pm in the Joe Cassar room in Borgo Maggiore, 1,407 participants answered 21 questions on aspects that touched on topics such as rights, identity, information, economy, society, public administration and the private sector.
According to the data collected by the eleven researchers involved in the project, 35.8% of those interviewed expect a positive impact on their future work activity and 22.1% a negative one, while 42.1% think that it will not produce particular effects.
This is an example of the results that will be presented and explored during the presentation to the public, with the participation of the scientific coordinators Sebastiano Bastianelli And Mario Cataniof the director of the National Statistics Office Mauro Sammaritani and representatives of trade unions and industrial organizations, as well as the director of the Research Center for International Relations of the University of San Marino, Michele Chiaruzzi (photo): “This complex work of empirical research and data analysis – explains the academic – is indispensable because public opinion is a fundamental aspect of democratic life and European integration is its epochal corollary. Through the project – underlines Chiaruzzi – the University carries out its third mission, that is, the task of contributing to the social, cultural and economic development of the territory, as required by law. In this light, I believe that the value of the research group is inestimable”.
The survey, entitled “OPI.EUR – San Marino public opinion towards the European Union”, is part of a broader activity which saw among its stages, in 2023, the presentation of the first research of this line, followed by an appointment in which further in-depth analysis was proposed.
The presentation on May 5th, characterized by a simple and informative style, will be supported by some graphics. The public will have the opportunity to ask questions. Free admission.
