SAN MARINO – It wasn’t just a question of wings and wind, but of heart, dedication and prodigious orientation. The sky above the Titan is tinged with gold thanks to the feat of Luca Casadei, his fourth success of the season, who took the top step of the podium in one of the most challenging races on the calendar starting from Brindisi, which took place on Sunday 3 May.
A 592 kilometer sky marathon
The competition, which saw 279 specimens at the start, involved the release of the pigeons from the Apulian city of Brindisi. A route of 592 kilometers full of pitfalls, cross currents and the constant challenge of distance. The female freshman 23371 (in the photo), the pupil of the Casadei kennel, beat the competition. The young traveler crossed Italy with unshakable determination, reaching the finish line after 8 hours and 31 minutes of uninterrupted flight, for an average hourly speed of almost 70 km/h.
The numbers of success
To understand the extent of the performance, just look at the hourly average maintained by the bird: a constant speed that testifies not only to the excellent state of shape of the animal, but also to the quality of the selection and training work carried out by Casadei. “It’s an indescribable emotion to see it appear on the horizon and head straight towards the dovecote after so many kilometres,” commented an enthusiastic Casadei. “The 23371 demonstrated exceptional character, reaching maximum targets for a handful of seconds.” In fact, the victory came by just 40 seconds over the never-tamed Vittorio Minardi, an expert and titled pigeon fan from Fano, who had interrupted Casadei’s streak of successes only seven days earlier, dominating the race starting from Mola di Bari.
