Samoa Touch Rugby have wrapped up a successful campaign at the Asia Pacific Open Touch Cup (APOTC), with all three teams securing top-five finishes.
Samoa competed in the Men’s Open, Women’s Open, and Mixed Open divisions, delivering strong performances across the board.
Women’s Open
Samoa’s Women’s Open side enjoyed an impressive run throughout the tournament, recording dominant victories over Chinese Taipei (15–0), Philippines (9–4), Hong Kong China (13–8), Lebanon (11–0), and Singapore (10–6).
Their only defeats came against eventual finalists Australia and New Zealand. Samoa advanced to the semifinals but were edged out by Australia before bouncing back to defeat Singapore 7–5 and secure the bronze medal.
Mixed Open
The Mixed Open team followed a similar path, with their only losses coming against tournament heavyweights Australia and New Zealand, along with a narrow defeat to the Philippines in the final round-robin match.
Despite those setbacks, Samoa delivered strong wins over China (11–4), Tonga (6–4), and Hong Kong (13–2), earning a place in the Cup semifinals, where they were defeated by Australia.
In a rematch against the Philippines in the bronze medal playoff, Samoa fell just short, narrowly missing out on a podium finish.
Men’s Open
Samoa’s Men’s Open team made a strong start on Day 1, defeating Hong Kong (10–5) and Greece (10–3).
Day 2 proved more challenging, with losses to eventual champions New Zealand and bronze medallists Lebanon. Despite this, Samoa secured a quarterfinal berth but were beaten by a strong Cook Islands side, 13–6.
The team responded well in the classification matches, defeating Singapore and Sri Lanka to finish fifth overall.
