Abdelaziz El Harrabi, president of the Tataouine Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries, confirmed to Mosaïque FM that self-sufficiency in livestock is assured for Eid el-Adha. The region has around 26,000 head (sheep and goats) for a usual local demand not exceeding 22,000.
Current prices vary between 900 and 1,600 dinars for a medium-sized sheep, while prices for larger specimens reach 2,000 dinars.
The president of the Union specified that the selling price by weight should be between 28 and 30 dinars per kilo. This pricing, considered fair for breeders, is awaiting official validation. Unlike the previous year, the majority of producers retained their livestock for this season.
