MOSCOW, 24 April (BelTA) – Sixty Belarusian citizens have been evacuated from Lebanon aboard an aircraft of the Russian Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM), official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on 24 April, BelTA has learned.
She noted that on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a special EMERCOM aircraft delivered 28 tonnes of Russian humanitarian aid to Beirut on 21 April. “On the return flight to Moscow, 67 citizens of the Russian Federation and 60 citizens of the Republic of Belarus were evacuated. They had found themselves in a difficult situation due to the escalation in Lebanon,” the spokesperson said.
“We express our solidarity with the people and leadership of that country and reaffirm our principled support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic. We hope that the ceasefire reached on 16 April will be strictly observed, creating conditions for sustainable de-escalation in Lebanon. We clearly see what is happening there, but we proceed from the desire to support the ceasefire. And we hope it will help improve the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation,” Maria Zakharova added.
