PARAMARIBO — In the context of the Commemoration and Celebration of the Day of the Maroons 2026, the Ministry of Regional Development (RO) is organizing various activities in the period from September 18 to October 10, 2026 under the heading ‘Maroon Legacy Wi Rutu’. As part of this, a lecture and panel discussion was organized on Friday in the Congress Hall with the theme ‘Domestic Development’. During this activity, attention was paid to the development of the interior, the rich Maroon culture and the importance of preserving and transmitting cultural traditions.
In addition, a ‘Legacy Maroon fair’ will be organized in Roelie’s Event Venue on October 3 and 4. This fair offers space for making culture, traditional food, traditional costumes, cosmetics, dance and agriculture visible. On October 10, the wreath laying ceremony will take place every year at the monument on October 10 Square. The Day of the Maroons will continue to be celebrated with traditional groups and music formations.
