US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the US is ready to resume attacks on Iran.
US President Donald Trump did not make any decisions on an extended ceasefire in Iran during a meeting in the White House yesterday, despite the fact that this was hinted at before the meeting.
Trump has said his top priorities in a peace deal with Iran are that Iran agree never to develop nuclear weapons and that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened.
“Trump will only make a deal that is good for the United States and meets his conditions. Iran must never get a nuclear weapon,” an unnamed White House official told AFP.
In recent days, US officials have hinted that a deal is in sight, but the Iranian government has not accepted such claims.
The army reminds itself
AFP sources say that a deal is ready and awaiting Trump’s approval. That agreement includes an ongoing ceasefire pending the resolution of issues between the Iranian and US governments.
Hegseth said at a defense conference in Singapore this morning that the United States has full capabilities to start the war again.
The US Central Command also posted on X saying US forces would remain present in Iran.
