The Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL) and Libya’s Ports and Maritime Transport Authority signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) last Tuesday (5 May) at REAoL’s Tripoli headquarters.
The MoU aims to support the transition towards the use of clean energy and enhancing environmental sustainability in the Libyan ports sector.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. Abdelsalam Al-Ansari, Chairman of REAoL and Mohamed Al-Siwi, Chairman of the Libyan Ports and Maritime Transport Authority, in addition to several directors of departments and offices from both sides.
In compliance with MARPOL Convention
This MoU comes within the framework of the implementation of Libya’s National Strategy for Renewable Energies and the Port Sector Development Plan, to enhance the country’s energy security, support emission reduction and compliance with international environmental standards, especially the MARPOL Convention.
Implementation of joint projects
The MoU aims to enhance cooperation in the fields of renewable energies and energy efficiency, through the implementation of joint projects and the exchange of experiences, in a way that contributes to the development of a clean energy system within ports, improving air quality, and raising the efficiency of environmental performance.
Converting Libyan ports to ”green ports”
It also seeks to enhance the position of Libyan ports as green ports that attract investment and support the national trend towards sustainable development and energy transition.
