Three members of the Administrative Board of the Jordanian Writers Association issued a statement in which they explained the reasons for their objection to a number of decisions and actions taken by the Administrative Board during the recent period, stressing that they will continue to perform their representative role within the body out of respect for the trust that the General Assembly granted them in the recent elections.
The members who signed the statement, namely: Akram Al-Zoubi, Dr. Hassan Al-Majali, and Dr. Atallah Al-Hajjaya, said that they preferred to remain in their positions despite what they described as an atmosphere of quarrels and disagreements within the meetings, with the aim of keeping members of the General Assembly informed of the progress of work and the decisions issued by the administrative body.
The statement addressed a number of observations related to the decision-making mechanism within the authority, noting that some decisions are decided according to a majority vote without taking other points of view into consideration, according to what was stated in the statement.
The signatories also expressed their objection to allocating a fixed day per week to a cultural activity, considering that this may open the way for similar demands from other parties, which may affect the programs and activities of the association and its various committees.
The statement also addressed the objection of the three members to the creation of new committees outside the committees elected by the General Assembly, demanding that such committees be put up for election in accordance with the customs followed within the Association since its founding.
In the same context, the signatories expressed their reservations about forming a new committee that was proposed under several names during the recent meetings, considering that its formation requires a clear legal and procedural framework that defines its powers and working mechanisms, stressing the importance of preserving the association’s role in defending freedom of opinion and expression.
At the conclusion of their statement, the three members affirmed their adherence to the general interest of the Association and their keenness to continue its cultural and national role, stressing that they will continue to inform the General Assembly of decisions that they believe affect the constants and principles on which the Association was founded.
This statement comes in light of discussions taking place in the Jordanian Writers Association on a number of organizational and administrative issues related to internal work mechanisms and the development of institutional performance.
