Initially, there was only an appeal for one. But now it is clear that the prosecution will try to get both the accused men from Kangaamiut convicted of manslaughter in Greenland’s High Court.
October 14 was two men acquitted of manslaughter in the Qeqqa District Court in Maniitsoq. One of the men was instead convicted of violence resulting in death, and the other went completely free.
The prosecution appealed on the spot, as far as the convicted 43-year-old man was concerned.
After a period of reflection, prosecutors now state that the case will also be appealed in relation to the other man, who is in his mid-60s.
It’s all about the fact that a 49-year-old man died of serious injuries in Kangaamiut on October 21 or 22, 2025.
The 43-year-old defendant admitted very extensive violence against the deceased and was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for violence resulting in death. He was thus not convicted of manslaughter, which requires intent to kill.
The court did not find it proven that the elderly defendant participated in anything illegal, and therefore he was not convicted of anything. But the case continues in the high court for him as well.
The indictment stipulated that a manslaughter conviction would result in at least nine years in prison for both men.
The High Court case has not been scheduled yet, prosecutors say.
