An agreement has been concluded between Air Greenland and Naalakkersuisut to ensure winter backup of the helicopter capacity in the Tasiilaq district.
Naalakkersuisut has concluded an agreement with Air Greenland to ensure a more reliable transport system in East Greenland.
From November 2026 until May 2027, it will thus be possible to use an AS350 helicopter as a backup in the event of an operational stay on the primary helicopter.
This is stated by Naalakkersuisut in a press release.
Naalakkersuisoq, Iddimanngiiu Jensen Bianco (IA), says that the agreement was concluded on the basis of her recent visit to the region:
– On the basis of my recently completed visit to Kulusuk, Tasiilaq and Kuummiit, it is with great pleasure that I can now announce to the citizens of Tasiilaq and the surrounding settlements that an agreement has been reached for winter backup of the helicopter capacity.
– I hope that this will help give the citizens a better and safer experience as well as a more reliable transport system, especially in the winter months, says Iddimanngiiu Jensen Bianco, who is naalakkersuisoq for housing, infrastructure, outer districts and emergency services.
Air traffic in East Greenland has for a long time faced criticism from local citizens in particular.
