National Day 2026
As usual, there are many different events in towns and villages in connection with National Day on 21 June.
On the summer solstice, will the national day, as usual be celebrated with our flag being raised everywhere from eight o’clock.
In towns and villages, the usual events in connection with the national day will be held.
After the flag raising, you can read in the municipalities’ programs that there will be joint breakfasts, church services, laying of flowers on grave sites, cultural honors and communal meals that bring the residents together.
At the end of the National Day programme, there will be dances for both children and adults in several places.
Sports will be at the center

In Uummannaq, a football tournament will be held on national day – ie 21 June – from five o’clock.
The various teams must register by Friday 19 June at the health and leisure department at the municipal office in Uummannaq, writes Avannaata Kommunia on its Facebook page.
Many football matches

Football will also be played in Kangerlussuaq on the field at two o’clock. The best player and the best goalscorer will receive prizes, Qeqqata Kommunia states on its Facebook page.
Also in Ittoqqortoormiit, the celebration will be marked with football. There will be games for both children and adults from two o’clock.
Greenlandic characteristics will be in focus
In the Sisimiut hall, in the country’s second largest city, citizens will have the opportunity to sell their own handmade Greenlandic products during coffee mik from twelve to five.
The sales event is organized by the cultural center Taseralik.
It is not only in Sisimiut that our national characteristics will be displayed.
In Paamiut, Nuuk and Ittoqqortoormiit, competitions in Greenlandic national dress will be held in connection with the national day.
In Nuuk, you can read on Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq’s website that from nine to ten there will be an event with competitions in Greenlandic national costume under the name ‘Kittat Inuiaat Show’.
Multi-day program
In South Greenland, in the Municipality of Kujalleq, more extensive activities are planned than in the rest of the country, as an event is held under the name ‘Culture Week’. On Kommune Kujalleq’s website you can read about the programs in Narsaq, Nanortalik and Qaqortoq from Monday until National Day on Sunday.
Among the highlights is that in Qaqortoq and Nanortalik, kayaking is held on Saturday 20 June, while in the rest of the country it takes place on 21 June.

In Qaqortoq, the largest city in South Greenland, there will be a race around Lake Storesøen on National Day at eleven o’clock, organized by QSP.
