Two men were fatally shot by police and two firearms seized during an anti-crime exercise in La Romain early yesterday.
Police carried out the operation between 4 am and 7:05 am, targeting firearm-related offences, robberies and home invasions in the San Fernando Police District.
Acting on intelligence, officers went to a house on Ashley Street, off Pond Street, La Romain, around 5:20 am, where they encountered two armed men.
Police said the first man raised his firearm in the direction of officers despite being ordered to drop it. Officers opened fire, hitting him.
A second man was found armed in a bedroom and was also shot after allegedly pointing his firearm at officers.
Both men were taken to San Fernando General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Crime Scene Investigators recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition and a revolver containing five rounds of .38 ammunition.
Investigations are continuing.
