Former American diplomat: Reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program is still possible

Richard Schmerer, a former American diplomat, confirmed that the indicators were pointing to… The approach of the United States and Iran To reach a political understanding that would contribute to containing the existing crisis between the two sides, noting that the negotiations witnessed progress on a number of files before the situation became complicated as a result of recent developments in the region.

During an intervention with media personality Noha Darwish on the “Mid-An-Nahar” program on the Cairo News Channel, Schmirer explained that the available information indicated that there were preliminary agreements related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing restrictions imposed on Iranian ports, while the financial files, most notably the release of Iranian assets, remained among the most prominent issues that need further negotiation and resolution.

A diplomatic solution is still on the table

The former American diplomat pointed out that the Iranian nuclear file can be dealt with through diplomatic and political channels, stressing that reaching an agreement on it is still possible through dialogue and negotiation between the parties concerned.

He added that the diplomatic path remains the most effective option to avoid further tensions, pointing out the importance of continuing efforts aimed at building joint understandings that guarantee regional stability and limit the possibility of escalation.

Recent developments have complicated the scene

Schmirer explained that the American strikes that targeted Iran, in addition to the attacks launched by Tehran against some neighboring countries, contributed to the complexity of the political and security scene in the region, and affected the chances of quickly reaching comprehensive understandings.

He stressed that the continued escalation carries great risks for the security and stability of the region, which requires urgent diplomatic action to bring the parties back to the negotiating table and search for sustainable political solutions.

    Calls to contain the crisis

The former American diplomat stressed the need to work to reach an agreement that puts an end to the current tensions and prevents the expansion of the conflict, considering that dialogue remains the best way to address the outstanding issues between the United States and Iran, including the nuclear file and the economic and security issues related to it.
