A petition has been launched calling for President Tamás Sulyok to remain in office, and the Fidesz parliamentary group has issued a public appeal urging people to sign it. The initiative follows a call by Péter Magyar, chairman of the Tisza Party, for the head of state to step down, as the deadline for convening the new National Assembly approaches. Based on the appeal, the petition aims to show political support for the head of state and to encourage resistance against the demands made against him.
A petition has been launched calling for President Tamás Sulyok to remain in office. “Let us stand by President Tamás Sulyok! Let us show him that he is not alone, that he should resist Tisza’s pressure and threats, and remain in office to defend our shared values!”, wrote the Fidesz faction on its social media page.
The petition emphasizes that Péter Magyar has called on President Tamás Sulyok to step down from office, even though the president has only thirty days left before the new National Assembly convenes, and the pressure on him is mounting by the hour.
“If the president runs away, Tisza will not merely win seats: he will take over the offices of the constitutional checks and balances without resistance. But Hungary’s head of state is not a rubber stamp used for the ceremony of the transfer of power and then cast aside,” the appeal states.

I have already signed it,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán noted on his social media page, responding to the petition in support of the head of state published on the CitizenGO portal.
Sulyok took office in 2024, and his term is set to last until 2029. Magyar, chairman of the Tisza Party, stated that he expects the head of state, the chief prosecutor, the president of the State Audit Office, the president of the Supreme Court, and the members of the Constitutional Court—to step down by May 31, or else they will be removed from office.
