A Penal woman is among five people for whom Preventive Detention Orders (PDO) have been issued.
The latest PDOs, signed by Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander and dated between August 1 and 11, respectively, were officially gazetted yesterday.
Natalie Lavaughn Pegus, of Lowkie Trace, Penal, was identified as a member of the Pegus gang, with reported access to a cache of firearms and ammunition.
She was alleged to be engaged in the trafficking of firearms, ammunition, production and distribution of illegal narcotics, armed robberies, shootings and murder.
In addition, Pegus was alleged to be providing finances and transport for the gang, while confidential intelligence linked her and others to recent homicides in the area, which was said to have resulted from a larger developing conflict between their gang and the Barry Maraj gang.
Her PDO read, “Further intelligence links the detainee and others to a series of armed robberies in the Siparia district and environs and an imminent escalation of firearm attacks on rival gang members in public places which threaten public safety.”
Pegus was ordered detained at the Women’s Prison, Golden Grove, Arouca.
Clifford Mohan, also called Reuben Mohan and Dougla, of Jasper Avenue, Greenvale, La Horquetta and Saddle Road, Moses Avenue, was ordered detained at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre (ECRC), Santa Rosa, Arima.
He was identified as a member of an unnamed gang engaged in the theft and supply of motor vehicles for use by other gangs in the commission of criminal offences, including murders, shooting, retaliatory attacks, armed home invasions, trafficking of illegal narcotics, firearms, ammunition and persons and for scrapping and sale of parts.
Confidential intelligence linked Mohan to a recent theft of a vehicle at a mall, while further information claimed he and others intend to escalate their theft and supply of stolen vehicles to other gangs for activities which are prejudicial to public safety.
Jason Walker, also called Jason Corey Walker and Papa Jase, of Lower Santa Cruz, La Canoa and Laventille Road, Febeau Village, San Juan, was also ordered detained at the ECRC.
He was held on the same grounds as Mohan.
Joining Mohan and Walker was Kuroon Mohammed, also known as Naz Kuroon Mohammed, of Jayrasingh Road, Coalmine, Sangre Grande; Jasper Avenue, Greenvale, La Horquetta and Eastern Main Road, Valencia, who was also ordered detained at the ECRC. The reasons outlined in his PDO were the same as in Mohan’s and Walker’s.
Finally, a PDO was issued for Shawn Edwards of Petit Morne Settlement, Ste Madeleine; Tarouba Road, Marabella; and Tarouba Extension, Marabella, who was identified as an armed lookout for a known drug block.
He and others were credibly linked to the distribution and sale of illegal narcotics at the location and environs.
Man on the run after
PDO issued nabbed
A Maloney man who had been evading lawmen after a Preventive Detention Order (PDO) was issued for him, was held on Saturday at Harry’s Water Park, Rio Claro.
Daren “Daewoo” Gumbs, 35, of Building 21, West Maloney Gardens, was arrested at the popular spot after being identified by two off-duty officers.
Gumbs is a reputed gang leader and an alleged drug and firearm offender.
A female officer at the recreation facility saw Gumbs, was aware that a PDO had been issued for him and he had been evading the Maloney police. The officer alerted the Rio Claro Criminal Investigations Department and a party of officers later responded and arrested Gumbs at the park and took him to the Rio Claro Police Station for safekeeping.
Gumbs was handed over to officers from the Maloney Police Station on August 16, following which the PDO was formally served.
