A 22-year-old Morvant man who had recently signed up to join the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment was shot dead this morning at the Unipet Gas Station at the corner of Morvant Old Road and the Eastern Main Road, Laventille.
The victim has been identified as Khalil Malik Emmanuel Williams, of Chinapoo, Morvant.
Relatives described Williams as a young and ambitious man who had been looking forward to a new chapter in his life. They said he graduated from Morvant/Laventille Secondary School with five CSEC passes and had been working while pursuing his goals.
According to family members, Williams had signed up to join the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment on Thursday, just two days before he was killed.
His relatives insisted he was not involved in gang activity and said he was focused on building a better future. They described him as someone who loved motorcycles and was determined to make a positive contribution to society.
The tragedy comes just two months after the death of his father, Rodney Williams. Relatives said Rodney had worked hard throughout his son’s life to keep him away from crime and provide him with opportunities.
Police are continuing investigations into the killing. No motive has yet been established, and no arrests have been reported.
