PETALING JAYA: A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a car while crossing the SPRINT Highway near the Damansara toll plaza here on Saturday (Aug 22).
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said police received a report through the MERS999 system at 10.26pm.
“Initial investigations found that the accident occurred at about 10pm when the car, driven by a local in their 20s, was travelling from Damansara towards Putra Heights.”
“When the vehicle reached the scene, a man suddenly crossed the road from right to left, causing the driver to be unable to avoid him and hit the pedestrian,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 23).
ACP Shamsudin said the pedestrian, who had no identification documents, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
He urged witnesses or relatives who may be able to identify the victim to come forward to assist in the investigation.
“They can go to the nearest police station or contact traffic investigating officer Insp Mohd Nazreen Nasharuddin at 03-79662222,” he said.
ACP Shamsudin also reminded all road users to comply with traffic laws and regulations to prevent accidents.
