Vice Premier Oana Gheorghiu stated that the Government will remove the birth certificate from the documents required to renew the bulletin. Gheorghiu announced that the measure, requested by civil society on the “Paperless” platform, had already been discussed with MAI representatives.
“It was discussed with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was communicated to all the points where electronic identity cards are issued and this document is no longer required. We are in the process of solving many problems. We had more than 4,000 reports on different topics”, explained the deputy prime minister at Digi24.
On “Fără Hârtie”, the Romanians complained that “adults are asked for their birth certificate every time they renew their identity document, although the document was submitted and registered in the system when it was first issued and does not undergo changes over time”.
“I think that this initiative, “Paperless”, was an extremely good one, for dialogue with citizens and for putting before the authorities the real needs that people face. And it helped us to push some things forward. It does not mean that everything will be solved overnight, because for some it is necessary to digitize, to change some procedures, but we are in dialogue with many, with many institutions, with which we are trying to solve the problems”, Gheorghiu said.
Exceptions to the birth certificate rule are citizens who acquired Romanian citizenship before March 31, 2025 and who were not issued any Romanian identity document after that date. They must present their birth certificate at the first request.
