On social media, people are actively sharing photos and videos showing Kolkasrags, or what is left of this popular tourist attraction, which is now said to be under sea water. 360 News went to find out if Kolkasrags is really no longer reachable on dry feet.
Cape Kolkasrag has started to be “eaten” by the sea – now you have to wade through the water to get to the tourist favorite object. In the recent past, it was possible to reach the rocks marking Kolka Cape on dry feet, but this is no longer possible.
Local resident Tija says: “I have lived in Kolkata for 38 years. Now the shore is already in the forest and washes further and further. Now the water ends there at the stairs, but before there was a wide, wide beach.”
Aija is also surprised: “I didn’t expect it. I was here five years ago, I went to see the coast and it’s gone. It’s not Kolkasraga anymore.”
Edith shares similar feelings: “It’s an unusual sight that you come and look – oh, where is the horn? There is no horn.”
Although Kolkasrags is not accessible at the moment, the influx of tourists here is still quite large. The parking lot is full of cars on Friday morning and, according to the locals, just now – after the Ligo festival – the classic tourist season to Kolkasrag has started.
Tija reveals: “Lithuanians are very popular and Germans are the most who come to us. Until Midsummer there is such a moment of silence. Now the sea is warm and everyone comes here.”
If you want to achieve Kolkasraga the famous rocks, expect to wade through water that is at least waist deep.
