THE NORTH LEEWARD community celebrated the legacy of their former Parliamentary representative Alpian Rudolf Otway Allen, remembering him as a devoted “son of the soil”.
Many across the nation paused to honour the politician, teacher and Methodist Local Preacher who was accorded an official funeral on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The day’s solemn observance began with an official 10:00 a.m viewing at the House of Assembly, Calliaqua, where Allen’s body lay in state for dignitaries, officials, and members of the public to pay their final respects.The procession then moved to the Kingstown Methodist Church for a public viewing, tributes, and the funeral service. Delivering a tribute on behalf of the North Leeward Allen’s nephew, Cuthbert James, painted a vivid picture of a leader whose humility, integrity, and dedication left an indelible mark on generations.
“Mr Allen was more than a representative. He was a son of our soil, a teacher, a mentor, and a steadfast advocate for our community.”
James recounted that from his early years, Allen had been shaping young minds in the classrooms at various schools in the constituency, up until his historic election in 1989.
“He carried the hopes and dreams of North Leeward with dignity and determination. He served with vision, bridging the gap between rural needs and a national policy, ensuring that our voices were heard and most of our challenges were addressed.”
James added that Allen’s leadership and representation were also marked by an unwavering commitment to the betterment of every man, woman, and child in the constituency.
