Naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs and IA chairman, Múte B. Egede (IA), reacts on Facebook after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a series of statements about Greenland during a hearing on Wednesday.
Rubio was asked, among other things, about Donald Trump’s statements about Greenland, and here it was heard from Rubio that he agrees with the president that it is easier to defend a place when you own it.
Múte B. Egede emphasizes in his announcement on Facebook once again that Greenland has the right to self-determination:
– Greenland’s future is decided by us in Greenland. That’s how it has been, that’s how it is, and that’s how it will be in the future. The latest statements from the US do not change that, says Múte B. Egede.
He goes on to say that the talks with the US are constructive:
– We participate in the ongoing talks with the USA and Denmark – here also about security and defence. We do this constructively and with respect for all parties, as it should be among allies. Let’s maintain that track, writes Múte B. Egede.
Marco Rubio also touched on the negotiations during the hearing on Wednesday. Rubio said here that they are ongoing and happening on a monthly basis now, and that he expected good news:
– I think we will get some pretty good news about it at some point, said Rubio.
