Minister Andrews tours major infrastructure projects across Carriacou

Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews has completed a comprehensive assessment tour of several multimillion-dollar infrastructure developments across the island, confirming that major aviation, maritime, and road projects are advancing rapidly toward their completion targets.

The site visits underscore the government’s aggressive commitment to building back stronger, improving socio-economic connectivity, and ensuring climate-resilient infrastructure following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Beryl.

Key updates from the ministerial tour include:

    • Lauriston Airport Expansion and Night Landing Project: Terminal expansions, optimised passenger check-in counters, and upgraded seating areas are entering their final phases. Work on the highly anticipated night landing airfield lighting system is moving steadily, with full project completion and the official renaming to the Herbert Blaize Airport slated for late August 2026
    • Windward Jetty Redevelopment: Following the deployment of specialised heavy machinery, construction on the newly redesigned, climate-resilient Windward Jetty is progressing smoothly. The facility will restore and streamline trade, fishing, and transit networks between Carriacou and Petite Martinique by late July to early August 2026
    • Bogles Road Projects: Extensive concrete pavement rehabilitation and structural drainage networks are actively being laid to resolve long-standing transit issues, vastly improving daily commuting, school transport routes, and agricultural access
    • Mt Pleasant–Point Road and Beausejour–Cart Road Links: Degraded pathways across these vital corridors are undergoing heavy-duty structural overhauls. The replacement of worn tracks with robust concrete pavements will ensure long-term durability against severe weather patterns

Minister Andrews commended the engineering teams and local contractors for their professionalism and rapid execution. “The simultaneous execution of these projects represents a massive, historic investment in the people of Carriacou,” Minister Andrews stated. “While we ask residents for their continued patience during brief construction delays, these modernisations will create local jobs, boost tourism, and provide the durable foundation our economy needs to thrive.”
