Miltović: We clearly see our future in the EU

The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, participated today in the plenary session of the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative in Dubrovnik, where Montenegro appeared for the first time as an associated participating country.

He pointed out that this summit has a special significance for Montenegro, reminding that this is the first participation as an associated member after that decision was made last year in Poland.

Milatović thanked the member states for their support, with special reference to the contribution of Croatia as the host country.

“In a time of growing geopolitical uncertainty, this kind of cooperation is not only useful, but also necessary. The war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East represent serious threats to global stability,” Milatović pointed out.

He added that in such circumstances, the importance of the Initiative comes to the fore, especially in strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerability.

“The three seas initiative has great potential for improving infrastructure connections and solving challenges in the fields of energy and transport, said Milatović.

The President emphasized that improving connectivity is one of Montenegro’s priorities, and that integration processes, including membership in NATO and progress towards the European Union, represent an important framework for these efforts.

“Montenegro remains fully aligned with the common foreign and security policy of the European Union and firmly committed to its values. We clearly see our future in the EU,” said Milatović.

Speaking about concrete projects, he pointed out the importance of the Adriatic-Ionian corridor, which contributes to better connectivity, mobility and economic development of the region.

The President reminded that this year Montenegro is celebrating 20 years since the restoration of independence, as well as that it is hosting the EU-Western Balkans Summit in June.

“Thus, Montenegro confirms that it is a credible and responsible regional actor, ready to contribute to broader international processes,” said Milatović.

Finally, Milatović pointed out that Montenegro belongs to the European family not only geographically, but also politically, economically and strategically, with the expectation of further strengthening of cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative.
