The prosecutor’s office handed over a criminal case to the Zemgale district court, in which a man is accused of not complying with the ban on approaching his ex-spouse, in addition to threatening to commit murder and cause serious bodily harm, the LETA agency found out at the prosecutor’s office.
With Zemgales by the decision of the district court, the accused was prescribed temporary means of protection against violence – a ban on contacting the ex-spouse in any way, organizing a meeting or communicating with him in any way.
Despite the bans set by the court and knowing about criminal liability in case of non-compliance, the accused repeatedly tried to contact the woman by sending text messages and calling.
Being in an aggressive mood, driven by motives of anger, revenge and jealousy because the woman does not want to renew the relationship and communicate with him after the divorce, the accused repeatedly made unwanted phone calls and expressed threats to kill. He also contacted the woman’s minor son, whom he feared would kill his mother.
Taking into account that the defendant was already violent towards the woman during their cohabitation, she perceived the threats expressed by the man as real and dangerous to her life and health, which gave her reason to fear that these threats may be fulfilled, the application of sanctions to the man is explained by the law enforcement officers.
