A major Metallica exhibition will open at the Hungarian Rock Museum Hall of Fame, located in the RAM Colosseum, in conjunction with the world-famous American metal band’s two-night concert series in Budapest.
Metallica memorabilia from private collections will be on display for nearly two months, from June 6 to August 1, alongside the museum’s permanent exhibition, H-Music Hungary told MTI on Wednesday. Metallica is performing in Budapest this year after an eight-year hiatus—and they are playing two shows. As part of their M72 world tour, the band will take the stage at Puskás Arena on June 11 and 13, each with a different setlist and opening acts.
Live Nation, the concert organizer, had previously announced that in connection with the performances, the public is invited to the “Metallica Budapest Takeover” event on June 12, which will feature a book and guitar signing by Kirk Hammett, film screenings, a blood drive, and tribute concerts.
For the opening event on June 6, organizers are preparing an opening ceremony combined with a panel discussion; guests will include Péter Körmöczi (Cadaveres), Csaba Szabó (Archaic), Zalán Guoth (Scary Guyz – Metallica Tribute Band Hungary), and Gergely Szilvás (Shockmagazin). As noted, the museum is open every Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, but this schedule will change during the week of the concert: the exhibition will also be open on Thursday, June 11, and Friday, June 12.
As part of the previously announced Metallica Budapest Takeover, on June 12, Kirk Hammett, the band’s guitarist, will hold a book and guitar presentation at the Hungarian House of Music, where there will be a panel discussion with the musician about his book The Collection: Kirk Hammett, which showcases his Gibson guitar collection. The Metallica Film Festival will also take place that day, where, with the purchase of a single movie ticket, you can watch the band’s concert films from three different periods: Cliff’ Em All, Cunning Stunts, and Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de Mexico.
Also on June 12, Barba Negra will host the event titled …And Tributes For All!, where local tribute bands will pay homage to Metallica and their guests: Scary Guyz will perform Metallica songs, Silver Cord will perform Gojira songs, and Vulgar Display will perform Pantera songs.
This event will be followed by Fuel For The Night, a free party at Akvárium Klub, where the audience is invited to stay until dawn with the best music videos and songs from Metallica and other metal bands.
In collaboration with the band and the Hungarian Red Cross, a blood drive will also be held at Budapest Arena on June 11 and 12. Metallica will thank every successful donor with a limited-edition T-shirt.
The organizers are also setting up a special pop-up store in Budapest, where, in addition to a wide variety of Metallica merchandise, photo walls recreating the band’s iconic album covers will welcome everyone from June 10 to 14 at the Allee Shopping Center.
