Schneider Electric Expands with a Carbon-Neutral Smart Factory

Schneider Electric has opened a new state-of-the-art facility in Dunavecse, southern Hungary, significantly expanding its European manufacturing capacity while further strengthening Hungary’s role in the continent’s industrial and energy transition, Világgazdaság reports.

The Duna Smart Power Systems (DSPS) facility is the company’s largest manufacturing plant in Europe and also its first site designed from the outset to operate with net-zero carbon emissions. The factory therefore serves not only as a production hub, but also as a model for how sustainability and advanced technologies can be integrated into industrial operations.

The facility uses building management and energy optimization systems to continuously improve operational efficiency, while

nearly 5,000 square meters of rooftop solar panels supply a significant share of its electricity demand.

According to Dejan Markovic, Power Systems Vice President for Central Europe Zone at Schneider Electric, energy systems are becoming increasingly complex as electricity demand continues to grow. In this environment, digitalization is no longer optional but essential: power grids must become more flexible, resilient, and efficient, while also integrating a growing share of renewable energy sources and meeting new consumer demands.

One of the key products manufactured at the Dunavecse plant is the RM AirSeT switchgear system, a core component of medium-voltage power networks. The technology’s most significant innovation is the elimination of SF6 gas, one of the world’s most potent greenhouse gases. This shift is driven not only by sustainability goals but also by tightening European regulations that are pushing the industry toward alternative technologies.

The plant also demonstrates how data-driven industrial operations are becoming increasingly important. Real-time energy monitoring, automated systems, and integrated digital infrastructure connect energy management, manufacturing, and facility operations on a single platform.

E-mobility solutions are another strategic focus area. The site features ultra-fast charging systems capable of delivering substantial charging capacity for electric vehicles within minutes.

According to Tamás Lukács, CEE Prosumer Offer and Strategy Manager at Schneider Electric, high-performance charging infrastructure is essential for making electric mobility a practical large-scale alternative.

The Dunavecse facility reflects a broader trend in which Hungary is playing an increasingly important role in Europe’s energy technology and industrial transformation. Electrification, digitalization, and sustainability are reshaping both manufacturing and energy consumption across the continent. Schneider Electric’s approach suggests that the industry of the future will be not only more efficient, but also more intelligent, with data, software, and energy management taking on an increasingly central role.
