French soccer superstar Kylian Mbappe first equaled Lionel Messi’s record of 13 World Cup goals before surpassing the Argentinian with two goals against Senegal.
Mbappe overtook Messi on his 15th appearance, while the Argentine has 26 World Cup appearances.
Mbappe is now two goals away from former Germany striker Miroslav Klose’s World Cup record.
He has become France’s all-time top scorer with 58 goals, overtaking Olivier Giroud.
Mbappe scored the first and third goals in France’s 3-1 win over Senegal on Tuesday night.
Mbappe scored the first goal in the 66th minute, after Michael Olise’s magical pass.
The goal for 2:0 was scored by Bradley Barcola in the 82nd minute, assisted by Adrien Rabiot. Ibrahim Mbaye scored for 2:1 in the 95th minute.
The reaction of the French was immediate.
One minute after conceding the goal, Mbappe scored for the final result, 3:1.
The opening match of Group I took place at the “MetLife” stadium in New Jersey, in the presence of 80,545 spectators.

Mbappe during the first half had 14 touches of the ball, fewer than any other player. But in the second half it exploded.
