Despite being the entry-level laptop, meaning the affordable MacBook, the Neo’s aluminum body feels solid and hefty. Apple didn’t seem to cut corners in building this device, which means, if you need one for your kid, you know it’s ready for a few bumps and bruises. The Magic Keyboard is similar to the M1 MacBook Air, which provides an excellent typing experience with the right clicks for your ears. However, it is not backlit.
The hinge as solid as the premium MacBooks, no resistance or wobbles, and is effortless to lift and close. The 13-inch Liquid Retina display boasts up to 500 nits of brightness. From our brief experience with it, images are bright and crisp, and the colors are striking.
The trackpad is large and smooth, and feels clean to navigate around. Under the hood, the A18 Pro chip has outperformed an M1 chip in single core processing. Meaning, some apps like Photoshop. On paper, the specs should allow users some light editing. Definitely not for professional work, but it can help beginners learn and something enthusiasts can work with.
