The French president, Emmanuel Macron, received this Monday at the Elysee Palace the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, Nobel Peace Prize 2025, with whom he spoke about the “importance” of carrying out a “democratic transition” in the Latin American country.
«I have received María Corina Machado, Nobel Peace Prize. Together, we have talked about their commitment to freedom and the importance of achieving a democratic, peaceful transition in Venezuela that respects the will of its people,” Macron wrote on his social networks along with a photo of the meeting of the two.
For his part, Machado also expressed on social networks his “deep gratitude” to Macron and France for “their firm support for the transition to democracy and freedom in Venezuela.”
“We have traveled a long and painful journey, and finally, we are very close to freedom. Venezuela will be a nation of free and equal men and women, prosperous, safe and fraternal,” said the opposition leader.
She had previously shared video images and photos of her arrival at the Elysee Palace dressed completely in blue on social media.
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner was accompanied by the political scientist and professor Pedro Urruchurtu, the advisor Isadora Zubillaga and the lawyer Antonio Ledezma, who posed before the cameras inside the Elysée.
