Long Bay Zen Resort to Feature AI Concierge, Robotic Services and Over-Water Chapel
The developers behind the US$200 million Long Bay Zen Resort say the luxury property will combine artificial intelligence, automation and sustainability as part of a strategy to attract high-spending visitors to Antigua and Barbuda.
The 113-room resort, now under development on the site of the former Long Bay Hotel, will feature an AI-powered concierge capable of creating personalized itineraries, managing guest arrangements and anticipating visitor preferences.
Guests will also have access to automated transportation carts and smart in-room systems controlling lighting and temperature, while robots will handle routine deliveries and operational tasks throughout the property.
Developer Sophie Zhong described the concept as “invisible technology,” saying guests will experience tranquility rather than the technology operating behind the scenes.
“Guests will feel only peace, comfort, and the rhythm of the sea. But behind that stillness is a world-class smart system for operations,” Zhong said during the project’s launch.
A key attraction will be an over-water chapel built above Long Bay’s turquoise waters, a feature developers believe could strengthen Antigua’s appeal as a destination wedding market.
The project also includes plans for renewable energy systems and a desalination plant aimed at reducing pressure on local utilities while lowering carbon emissions.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the development aligns with the government’s goal of attracting visitors who spend more rather than simply increasing tourist arrivals.
“We’re looking for quality, more so than quantity,” Browne said. “They have come up now with the most exciting design, one that is in keeping with our environment and the cultural ethos of the country.”
Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez said the project reflects changing expectations among luxury travelers seeking wellness, authenticity and personalized experiences.
Long Bay Zen Resort is expected to be built by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation. Major construction is scheduled to begin later this year.
The development is located on a coastline known for sea turtle nesting activity, making environmental management a key consideration as work progresses. Officials say the resort’s sustainability measures are intended to support Antigua and Barbuda’s broader tourism and environmental goals.
