Regarding the US, there is the question of how permanent the situation around the current administration is. Midterm elections are coming up, and President Trump is not eternal either.
Well, I predict that after the midterms, if the Democrats win, there will simply be complete paralysis there and then nothing will happen.
But is it wise to pin all our hopes on some change of government or a different approach? That would come in 2029. I don’t know, it’s such a gamble to hope so strongly that it will happen. Well, maybe it will, if it doesn’t, that’s one thing. But if it does, how much will they go back to the status quo ante, considering how great the transformation in America is? The State Department is like a completely different thing than it was. The Department of Defense is completely different. All those ‘heads are rolling’ there constantly…
Officially, it’s the Department of War now, isn’t it?
Officially, it’s still the Department of Defense. How much, how quickly they would want to return to the previous state, we don’t know. And then there is the third factor. We hear here, as Rutte, the Secretary General, says, that Russia will be ready to attack in 2029. Well, 2029 is the year when that hoped-for change would come. All sorts of military personnel give their assessments of what year Russia would be ready to invade. I don’t take them that seriously, but the point is still that we don’t have that much time here. And if we don’t have much time and at the same time we are only hoping for some change, then in my opinion, that is not a very responsible approach from the European countries.
