A typical holiday by the sea became anchored in our consciousness with the introduction of union holidays. PHOTO: collection of the Ljubljana City Museum
Black-and-white photos of families whose members in bathing suits sit on towels and squint into the lens, inflatable pillows of significantly more manageable dimensions than today, people having lunch in front of trailers with company signs… These are fragments that still create a parable of a typical summer vacation, which was most often heralded by the cry: Let’s go to the sea! The exhibition with this title was opened this week in the City Museum of Ljubljana. The theme of summer holidays may not be the most typical for a city museum, agrees Barbara Savenc, who designed the exhibition together with her colleague Ana Pokrajac Iskra, but these objects are also part of their collection and an important witness to the life of the townspeople.
