Minister of Tourism Huot Hak has highlighted the strong tourism appeal of this year’s Kampong Cham Sankranta, as a large-scale “Leas Hal” food event attracted crowds of visitors.
The event, featuring sun-dried freshwater golden clams weighing up to five tonnes and stretching 1,200 metres, was officially opened on April 15 along the road in front of the provincial hall, under the presidency of Huot Hak and Un Chanda, Governor of Kampong Cham.
“Leas Hal”, a popular Cambodian street snack known for its savoury and spicy taste and typically served with tamarind sauce, was showcased as the centrepiece of the festivities.
The large-scale culinary display was described as a creative highlight of the celebrations, reflecting the popularity of the dish among Cambodians in both rural and urban areas. The event drew significant participation from local residents and tourists travelling from across the country.
Several dignitaries and provincial leaders attended the event, alongside large crowds of the public.
Hak said the Kampong Cham Sankranta during the Khmer New Year continues to demonstrate the province’s tourism potential, while promoting Cambodian culture and cuisine through innovative events designed to attract visitors from all directions.
