(KPL) The Lao Women’s Union (LWU) on April 20 officially opened a five-day training course focused on advancing women’s development work.
The training brings together leadership officials from various ministries, organizations, and provinces, along with key personnel from the central LWU.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Phasouk Vongvichit, Vice President of the Lao Women’s Union. The event was attended by representatives from the LWU Cabinet, relevant departments and centers, the National Commission for the Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children (NCAWMC), the Microfinance Institution for the Development of Women and Families, as well as trainees and related staff.
The training program aims to support the implementation of the Lao Women’s Development Plan, particularly Goal 3 under Priority Plan 1. It focuses on strengthening leadership capacity and enhancing administrative management skills among women’s union officials at all levels.
Organizers said the course is also designed to improve knowledge transfer, enabling participants to effectively disseminate information and empower female members and women from all ethnic groups across the country.
Throughout the five-day program, participants will study a range of key topics. These include political theory, with emphasis on the Party’s perspectives on women’s advancement and the Kaysone Phomvihane Thought on the role of women. Additional sessions will cover operational management, including office administration, organizational structure, inspection work, and information and media management.
The curriculum also addresses social and economic support, such as cultural outreach, counseling and protection services for women and children, and the promotion of maternal and child development. Participants will also examine financial empowerment, including the role of microfinance institutions in supporting women and family livelihoods.
During the training, participants are expected to exchange experiences and practical lessons related to managing women’s development work. The initiative aims to strengthen the Lao Women’s Union at all levels, support the implementation of Party policies and the State’s socio-economic development agenda, and advance the goals of the national women’s development plan.
