Kosovo has declared Friday, April 24, 2026, a state day of mourning in honor of academician Rexhep Qosja. The decision was made public by the acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, who emphasized that this is an institutional assessment for one of the most important figures of Albanian culture.
“In honor of the life and work of academician Rexhep Qosja, tomorrow, Friday, April 24, 2026, is declared a State Day of Mourning in the Republic of Kosovo. With this decision, our state expresses respect and gratitude for a personality who gave knowledge, work and authority to Albanian culture”, the announcement states.
During the Day of Mourning, flags will be lowered to half-mast in all state and public institutions in Kosovo.
Academician Rexhep Qosja passed away at the age of 90, while the funeral ceremony was held in a family circle.
