“Montenegro is entering the very end of negotiations for EU membership, and the messages and positive atmosphere from the EU Summit – Western Balkans in Tivat should be used so that North Macedonia and the other countries of the Western Balkans take additional steps on the EU path,” the European Union announced.
According to them, the EU is clear, the door is open, the accession process has regained momentum, but the tasks and criteria required for membership must be met individually by all candidate countries.

“Europe does not need “Trojan horses” and potential “problematic” members. That is why it is important that societies in the countries of the Western Balkans fully accept and adopt the value systems on which the EU is based. Close cooperation and coordination of true pro-European, progressive, social democratic and liberal parties, organizations and individuals in the Western Balkans is particularly important in this direction,” they said.
This was concluded during separate talks of the delegation of the European Union, which consists of Damir Šehović, Ivan Vujović, Vatroslav Belan and Amina Cikotić, with the presidents of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, Venko Filipče and the Liberal Democratic Party and the Association of Liberals of Southeast Europe, Monika Zajkov.
They point out that during the conversation it was stated that the cooperation of parties that share the same values and view on the European and prosperous future of the Western Balkan countries must not be just a formality, but a concrete tool for opening up new opportunities, economic progress and building modern and successful societies.

“Progressive parties, social democrats and liberals, must not allow authoritarian regimes and structures that want to govern countries by undemocratic means and that are essentially anti-European, to manage processes in the region,” they said.
As they add, the delegation of the European Union presented the platform, vision and goals of this supra-party political entity to the interlocutors from SDSM and LDP.
“It has been announced that in the most important phase of negotiations with the EU, Montenegro is awaiting parliamentary and local elections, where the European Union will achieve a result that will be one of the key pillars of the new, fully pro-European government, in which there will be no place for parties that could play a destructive role at the behest of Aleksandar Vučić’s regime and pro-Russian proxies.
With a two-day visit to Skopje, the European Union continues its regional and international representation, strengthens ties and improves cooperation with sister parties and organizations.
