American tennis player Koko Gof qualified for the round of 16 of the WTA tournament in Madrid, as she defeated Romanian Sorana Kirstea in the third round today, the 26th of April, with a score of 4:6, 7:5, 6:1.
The match lasted two hours and 21 minutes, and Gof, who is ranked third in the world, showed character and quality after losing the first set. Kirstea is currently ranked 26th in the WTA list.
In the round of 16, Gof will play against the Czech Linda Noskova, to whom the Russian Ljudmila Samsonova lost the match without a fight due to injury.
Argentinian Solana Sijera and American Katie McNally also made it to the top 16. After a reversal, Sijera defeated Zejnep Sonmez from Turkey (0:6, 6:2, 6:3), and will play against the winner of the duel between Belgian Eliz Mertens and Czech Karolina Pliskova.
Meknali was better than the Czech Kateržina Sinjijakova with a score of 6:3, 2:6, 7:6 (7:2), and in the next round she will meet the winner of the match between Džesika Pegula and Marta Kostjuk.
The WTA tournament in Madrid is played for a prize pool of 8,235,540 euros.
