Four years after the murder of the young university student Yenny Karolay Nohava Forero, in Circasia, Quindíofinally her ex-boyfriend Cristian Alejandro Ospina Fernández He was sentenced to 37 years of prison for the student’s crime.
The university 20 year old was murdered with a white weaponwhile he was walking his dogs in a rural area of Circasia, on March 10, 2022, and from that moment on his relatives asked for justice.
In this town, several sit-ins and vigils were held demanding that those responsible for the crime be convicted.

Although the main suspect It was Ospina Fernández and he was even captured after the death of the young woman and a prosecutor charged her with the crime of aggravated homicide, the 27 year old man was released five months later due to expiration of terms.
Now, after four years, the third criminal judge of the Armenian circuit of knowledge issued a conviction against Ospina Fernández. The sentence imposed was 450 months, that is, 37 years in prison, for being the author of the murder of Yenny Karolain.
The judge explained that once the sentence is signed, the arrest warrant against the man and also denied house arrest.

“The benefit of house arrest will not be granted to the defendant since the minimum sentence far exceeds the 8 years of prison required; the granting of any criminal substitute is ruled out, however the time he remained in preventive detention Since his arrest occurred from March to September 2022, he will be deemed to have fulfilled the sanction imposed,” the judge said.
He also noted that for the moment, Ospina Fernández will remain free.
“This judge concludes that it is not appropriate to order the immediate arrest, the legally appropriate thing is to allow him to remain free until the sentence becomes final, at which time, if the sentence is confirmed, the arrest order will become effective, this decision is adopted because the sentence has not yet become enforceable and while any possible appeals are resolved.”

Fernández’s defense filed an appeal that will be sent to the criminal chamber of the High Court of Armenia.
During the hearings, the Prosecutor’s Office had said that Ospina “would have located the young woman, would have convinced her to go to a depopulated area of Circasia, and would have attacked her with a sharp weapon, causing multiple wounds that caused her death.”
Despite the sentence, the family is concerned that Ospina Fernández will remain free and they did not see the man again.
“We don’t know where he is, we never saw him again, They say he is still in Colombia, but we don’t know, he has no restrictions on leaving the country. He never appears at the hearings, they tell us that he is not obliged,” the young woman’s aunt, Lucelly Forero, told this medium.

Among the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office are two witnesses who stated that they saw Karolay in the company of Ospina In the rural area where her body was found and in the young man’s home, a knife was found, which apparently was hidden, and which corresponded to the same diameter of the wounds that the woman’s body had.
The young woman received a blow to the head, several stab wounds and was finally thrown down a ravine. The body showed no signs of having defended itself.
This homicide shook Quindío and during these years human rights defenders have asked that investigations be expedited and the necessary arrests made.
