Evening chaos in the west and north of the interior and Slavonia
The real deterioration comes towards the end of the day and in the night on Thursday, when heavy rain, showers and thunderstorms await us from the west, and locally more pronounced storms. This is why the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has issued serious warnings for certain regions.
For the Zagreb region, an orange level of alert has been declared, which indicates dangerous weather, and which is valid tonight from 8 pm until 4 am on Thursday. Apart from Zagreb, yellow warnings are in effect for the Karlovac and Gospić regions and the western part of Istria.
The orange level of readiness was subsequently activated for the Osijek region, that is, the area of Slavonia. This warning for the east of the country is valid tonight from 10 pm until midnight.
Within that period, from 8 p.m. until midnight, an orange alert is in effect for the Zagreb region due to the high probability of thunderstorms, which is more than 90 percent.
Locally, a storm with hail is possible, especially in the north of the area, and the strongest wind gusts will exceed 55 km/h. DHMZ invites citizens to a high level of preparedness for stronger thunderstorms that can cause great damage to property and trees.
The same level of caution and high preparedness is also necessary in Slavonia, where the probability of thunderstorms is greater than 70 percent. There, a strong storm with hail and heavy precipitation of more than 20 mm is expected locally in the late evening hours, and the greatest danger threatens the western part of the Osijek region.
Due to the heavy precipitation in a short time in these regions, the occurrence of local torrential and urban floods is possible, as well as damage to property and breaking of tree branches. Residents are urged to protect their property, adjust their driving to road conditions and, if possible, stop all outdoor activities until the situation calms down.
At the same time, from 8 p.m. to midnight, a yellow wind alarm is also on, as strong, gusty and stormy north and northeast winds are expected in places. The strongest gusts will range between 55 and 75 km/h.
On the sea, the storm will blow suddenly and strengthen during the night, while in most parts of the Adriatic during the day, it will blow moderately to strongly from the south and southwest, and at the foot of Velebit in the morning, a strong storm will blow.
