The deputy’s statements president of the National Assembly, Jorge Herreraabout the lack of employment in the country generated reactions on the national political scene.
During an interview at Radio Panama, Herrera raised the social pressure he faces due to the growing demand for work, ensuring that even in his office he constantly receives job requests.
“There is no work. I served 220 people in my office on Saturday and 70% were going to look for work. I can receive their resume, but I cannot name them in the State. One, because I am not a government, and two, because the State can no longer bear the burden,” he stated.
The deputy also pointed out that it is up to the Assembly to promote public policies that encourage the creation of companies and economic development, mentioning initiatives such as technical tables to reactivate the construction sector, especially in the interior of the country.
The statements provoked the response of Juan Diego Vásquezwho through his account on the social network X directly questioned the internal management of the Legislature.
“How many people have you appointed in the National Assembly since July 1, 2025? How many of those people are also members or leaders of Panamanism?”wrote.
The statement introduces a new angle in the debate on employment and use of resources within the State, particularly around appointments in the National Assembly of Panama.
The exchange occurs in a context in which Herrera himself recognized the limitations of the State in generating public employment, insisting that the solution lies in promoting the private sector and economic development in the provinces.
Vásquez’s reaction reflects how the issue of employment continues to be one of the main focuses of political debate in the country, especially amid questions about institutional management and the distribution of opportunities within the state apparatus.
