The Government of Japan approves an action plan to prevent child and youth suicide after recording the highest number of cases among students since official records began in 1980.
The Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, presents a strategy focused on reducing suicides among children and adolescents. The plan contemplates the creation of councils in local governments, coordination with schools and medical centers, as well as the use of artificial intelligence to identify risk situations.
According to statistics from the National Police Agency and the Ministry of Health, 538 primary, secondary and high school students committed suicide during the last year, the highest number since records began. The authorities also promote family and work support measures to strengthen child protection.
