A peaceful afternoon at the family’s favorite zoo turned into a nightmare in a split second. The local community and visitors alike are in shock after a three-year-old boy ended up in an enclosure with crocodiles. According to the police, an unknown man should have deliberately thrown it there.
The boy is currently fighting for his life in the hospital. Although his injuries are extremely serious and his condition remains critical, doctors have managed to stabilize him for now.
Emergency services immediately intervened at the scene of the crime, and the police have already detained a male suspect who is being investigated on suspicion of attempted murder, writes LADbible.
An attack out of the blue
What was supposed to be a pleasant day spent in the middle of nature turned into a scene cut out of a horror movie. Billed on its website as “a farm and zoo with tropical gardens in the heart of the countryside”, Johnson’s Zoo of Old Hurst in Cambridgeshire entices families with woodland walks, sandpits and sightings of more than 100 animals – including lions, tigers and the aforementioned crocodiles.
None of those present expected that the danger would not be lurking behind the fence, but directly among the visitors. According to the investigation so far, it seems that it was a completely random and incomprehensible act.
“At this stage we are speaking to people who were at the zoo at the time of this appalling incident to gain a better understanding of the circumstances,” said Inspector Verity McCann. “We do not believe that the arrested man and the child knew each other.”
For the little boy’s family, the hardest fight of their lives immediately began. Specially trained police officers are supporting them on site at the hospital. “Our thoughts remain with them,” added the inspector.
Finding answers
Even local officials do not hide their sympathy and horror. Alastair Torrance, vice-chairman of Old Hurst Parish Council, expressed his deepest sympathy: “My deepest sympathy goes out to the child’s family. It must have been absolutely terrifying for the boy and his loved ones.”
The case immediately alerted even the highest places. Ben Obese-Jecty, Member of Parliament for Huntingdon, confirmed that he is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant contact with the police leadership (Gold Command), which has classified the event as a critical incident.
“As a criminal investigation is currently underway, I would like to ask people to refrain from any speculation on the Internet,” appealed the Obese-Jecty MP.
Questions without answers
The complex, which is visited daily by dozens of families with children, is now surrounded by police officers and investigators are looking for clues.
Exactly how the incident occurred, how quickly help arrived and what led the attacker to commit such a horrific act remains under intense investigation.
