Mexico City/The Mexican authorities began the process for the extradition to the United States of a Cuban identified as Yoexy. The man was arrested this Wednesday in Cancún, Quintana Roo, for speeding on a motorcycle. “In Tampa, Florida, he faces charges for the crime of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, so in the next few hours he will be handed over,” he confirmed to 14ymedio an official from the state Secretariat of Citizen Security.
The official said that the Cuban was detained after a chase on Cartagena Street, in superblock 325, Santa Fe II neighborhood in the municipality of Benito Juárez. “The man did not have a license and could not prove his legal stay in the country,” says the official.
The background, a few days ago, of the capture of the Cuban Remigio Valdez Laoalias Milofinancial operator of the Cuban mafia, led the authorities in Cancun to request information about Yoexy. “The exchange of information ruled out the detainee’s relationship with human trafficking. However, details of his participation in the transfer of cocaine between both countries were offered,” says the officer.

Yoexy is considered a medium-scale trafficker, so in the United States he will be prosecuted and “surely after serving his sentence he will be expelled to his country of origin,” the same source stressed.
Cancun authorities have recorded the participation of migrants from the Island in crimes such as robbery, extortion and drug sales. “Last February, the Cubans Yordany, Seidel Rezk, Oslei and the Mexican Rafael were arrested. These people are dedicated to the illegal purchase and sale of currency, as well as various items that they transport to Cuba, on a weekly basis, generating profits without verifying the origin and provenance of the money.”
In the border state of Chiapas, arrests of Cubans have also been recorded, as is the case of Alberto, who this Wednesday was accused of robbery with violence. According to the statement, “a black cash register, cash and a knife” were found on the offender.
The migrant has a request for refuge before the Mexican Commission for Aid to Refugees (Comar), which, the immigration authorities told this newspaper, “will be rejected.”
The State Prosecutor’s Office specified that for the crime committed by Alberto he would face a sentence of up to 19 years in prison and without the right to bail.
