Havana/A total of 48 injuries are the result of an accident that occurred early this Sunday on the National Highway, near Cienfuegos. A bus from the Yutong company, which ran the route between Havana and Guantanamo, overturned in the section known as Puente de las Cajas, between kilometers 172 and 176, in the municipality of Aguada de Pasajeros.
According to the official media September 5the accident occurred around 2:40 am All the injured receive medical attention at the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Provincial Hospital and the Paquito González Cueto Pediatric Hospital, both in the city of Cienfuegos. No fatalities are reported.

Among them are seven minors, including three infants. Three patients remain in critical condition (code red), while the rest are in stable condition within the code yellow category, according to Ling Denise Santeiro, director of the Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Hospital.
The General Directorate of Health in Cienfuegos reported that the first injured were treated at the Aguada de Pasajeros Polyclinic, where emergency protocols were activated before their transfer to hospital centers with greater capacity. Eight pediatric patients were initially treated at that facility, including two children under one year old, who were subsequently referred to the provincial pediatric hospital.
The news was announced by the journalist Miguel Adrián Rodríguez Pérezwho confirmed the preliminary data of the accident on social networks, including the number of injured and the absence of deaths. Later, the Perlavisión Telecenter reported that the authorities of the Party and the Government in the territory moved to the hospital centers to supervise the medical care and follow-up of the patients.

So far, the authorities have not offered an official list of injured people nor have they specified the causes of the accident.
In recent months, similar events have occurred on the National Highway, some with fatal results. Last February, another serious accident occurred at the height of the Zaza bridge, in Sancti Spíritus, leaving at least four people dead and 17 injured, two of them in critical condition. In January, a minibus traveling from Havana to Camagüey he turned to the same highway, causing the death of musician José Luis Reyes Luis, 26, and leaving 14 other people injured.
In recent months, similar events have occurred on the National Highway, some with fatal results.
The poor conditions of this road infrastructure – with the asphalt deteriorated over the years, poor lighting and poor signage –, added to the precariousness of the vehicles that make interprovincial trips, make this road a high-risk stretch, especially at night.
The latest figures on road accidents confirm a worrying increase. In 2025, Cuba recorded 7,538 traffic accidents and 750 deaths, which represents an 18.2% increase in deaths compared to 2024, when 634 deaths were reported. The number of injuries also increased slightly, from 6,613 to 6,718, according to data from the National Road Safety Commission.
